Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company

Established in 1957 as part of the Mastic Fire Department in Mastic, New York, the Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company has a long-standing tradition of dedicated service to the community. Our organization was founded by a group of local residents—C. Breslin, A. Haase, W. Haase, W. Kirklewski, E. Knoll, H. Rutkowski, E. Schmidt, F. Schramm, W. Stafford, K. Vogel, and F. Wysocki—who recognized the urgent need for a dedicated emergency medical service within the Mastic Fire District. At the time, medical emergencies were handled by neighboring communities, often leading to longer response times that put lives at risk.

In its early years, Mastic Ambulance operated out of a small garage behind the Mastic Fire Department, relying heavily on donations and community support to fund operations and acquire necessary equipment. What began with a single ambulance and a handful of dedicated volunteers has since grown into a robust organization with a team of highly trained professionals and a fleet of modern ambulances.

Growth and Expansion

Recognizing the increasing demand for emergency medical services, Mastic Ambulance expanded its operations in 1986 by relocating to a new facility on Montauk Highway. This headquarters, purchased in conjunction with the Town of Brookhaven, featured three ambulance bays but was quickly outgrown due to the growing needs of the community. To accommodate further expansion, Mastic Ambulance acquired the adjacent property and, in 2015, completed the construction of its current state-of-the-art facility.

Our current headquarters is a modern, 9-bay garage equipped with sleeping quarters for staff, meeting and training rooms, a gym, and offices for department officers and directors. This facility allows us to operate efficiently and effectively, ensuring the highest level of emergency medical care for Mastic, as well as parts of Mastic Beach, Moriches, and Shirley.

Commitment to Excellence in EMS

Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company is staffed by a dedicated team of both volunteer and paid professionals who undergo extensive training to become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics. We provide a full range of emergency medical services, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS), ensuring that our community receives the best possible pre-hospital care.

Beyond emergency response, we are deeply involved in the community, offering public education initiatives, participating in local events, and providing vital support during large-scale emergencies such as hurricanes and other natural disasters.
